Dan Chung Interview: Creating the RODEO Album Cover for Travis Scott

To little kids, dolls and action figures are a huge source of entertainment. You look up to and want to be like those figures your playing with. That’s why you have to be held in high regard to acquire the honor of having one made in your image. If you’re made into an action figure, you know you did something cool, A prestige not many of the famous have accomplished, you can’t just be famous to become an action figure, you have to be iconic.

The cover of Travis Scott’s album Rodeo, features his iconic action figure that was developed and made by none other than Dan Chung. Dan has been a figure sculptor for over 20 years and we got to ask him a few questions about the process as well as the story behind the Rodeo cover.. At some point, we’ve all opened ms paint, we took a picture, cut the face out of a photo of someone, and put it on the body of someone else. You did it a couple of times until you realized they never really looked that good. Well, our guy VEMIX took it to a whole new level. A master at editing photos and deceiving the internet, he arranges different photos and creates iconic scenes that never actually happened but you wish did. You could only imagine the stories that would lead up to the fictional moment your witnessing.
That is not an easy thing to do, Finding the perfect photos with the correct light sources, screen direction, exposure, there are so many variables that have to line up perfectly and Vemix finds those combinations. Pose is a legendary graffiti artist from the MSK crew. The same way he approaches breaking down letter structure is the same way he approaches his illustrations. Pose and his piers are known for pushing the boundaries of what words can look like. When we look at a Pose piece, It feels like you’re walking down a busy city street. Lights flashing and a thousand different sounds from all directions. Sensory overload.

It must be a weird feeling being the thin you love most in life is illegal, ust to find you get rewarded for it at the end of the road.

OSGEMEOS Interview: The Secret Portals of São Paulo

Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo are two identical twins hailing from Sau Paulo, Brazil. Going by OSGEMEOS., the twins have been painting graffiti together since the 80’s and are known for their monumental murals and signature characters. All of their work takes place in a different world, a world that they’ve created and cant escape, they call it Tritrez. A realm that closely resembles their dreams, surreal landscapes inhabited by its’s folky, patterned clothed citizens.

OSGEMEOS is having a show called Portal at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in Chelsea New York City. We were interested in picking their brains about it and wanted to see what they were up to and how they are spending their time during quarantine..

REMEMBERING DMX

DMX is like the Queen (the band) of rap. Even if you have no idea who they are, you’ve heard at least five of their songs. Unfortunately, after a hectic week of being on life support, DMX has passed away at the age of 50.

Where The Oven Bakes & The Pot Biles is an exhibition at Shin Gallery in New York City’s Lower East Side. The show includes works only from formerly enslaved African American artists and craftspeople, displaying an amazing collection of pots, dolls, paintings and drawings. The show tells the story of lost artists in American History. We captured the show as well as talked to the curator Stavroula Coulianidis to understand the context of the show and learn more about the works included.
