People Love to Tell You How Busy They Are.

People Love to Tell You How Busy They Are.

People Love to Tell You How Busy They Are..

You ever notice when you ask someone what’s up, or how is it going, how have you been? They respond with “Oh I’ve been so busy” when you know damn well they don’t do shit with their time? But maybe they do, maybe they accomplish one thing during the day o maybe just do the same stuff everyone does and then tell you all about it and hard the task it was?

People love saying that their busy just to make themselves feel good appearing to be accomplishing so much. I think people love to talk about themselves in an attempt to show you that they think they are better than you. Or they are so wildly insecure about themselves that they have to fill their minds with this false narrative that they are actually progressing and getting more done than they actually are.

Especially creatives, I’ve known so many people post works in progress in their Instagram story and then I never see anything that comes out of it. It’s like showing people that you are doing something, actually feels better than showing a completed work. Letting the work speak for itself is just not as good of a feeling. Because the work that goes into it is the hard part, so thats what you want to show. How will someone know how hard you worked on something if you don’t tell them about it? The work itself doesn’t show the hours put into it so you have to communicate that on its own.

So what are you doing it for? Because you want to actually do it? Or because you like to show people that you do stuff and let them think that you’re being productive? I wish I could cite the place I read this idea but I completely forgot where, but I read somewhere that people enjoy showing their progress because it subconsciously makes them think that they don’t even have to complete it now. Like you already showed someone that you’re working on something, so let’s just move on to something else and show them that you’re working on something new because you’re so busy.

I feel like people who are actually so busy and don’t just want to appear busy, don’t want to talk about their work. Like you just spent all day working why do you want to dwell on it and think about it more? Or maybe not, that could just be a communication thing. The strong silent type as Tony Soprano would say.

Also, no one really cares….no one wants to hear you talk about the work you do. It’s like talking about the dream you just had. The person on the opposite end of the conversation doesn’t understand the impact of the daily idiosyncrasies that make up the process of something. They may nod their head and ask you questions about it but deep down inside they just want you to think that they are paying attention and understand what you are doing.

So next time you are telling someone how busy you are, think twice about what it is you are trying to communicate and how much the other person just doesn’t care. It may free you a little bit. And save you from looking like an asshole.
